Diver training consists of three separate elements.
1:- Theory Lectures... The study of the theory of diving.
2:- Pool Training... putting the theory into practice in the pool.
3:- Open water Training... repeating the practical training in a safe open water environment.
The Lectures take place at Larkfield Hall in Blantyre
7:30 till 8:30 on Thursday nights, throughout the year, so if you miss a lecture you can catch up when it is repeated.
After the lecture we go to the pool at Blantyre Leisure Centre for the practical side of the training. You will be allocated a Branch Instructor who will instruct you through all the elements of diver training.
Once the pool training is complete, it's on to open water! Most training dives will be carried out in Loch Fyne and Loch Long. The pace of the training is determined by factors including:
how quickly you pick up the skills - You progress at your own pace, there are no deadlines. availability of Instructor - We have nine active instructors at the moment. number of trainees - Pool training can be quite busy, and you might have to work as part of a group. Open water training is always carried out on a one to one basis. number of sessions/ trips you can attend - The more sessions you attend, the quicker your progress. If you are interested in taking up diving, and would like to know more, then come down to the pool on a Thursday night. You can get all the info you need, get to meet us, and arrange a try dive with one of our Instructors.
At the end of your training you will qualify as a Sport Diver. This will allow you to dive anywhere in the world to a depth of thirty metres.
If you want to progress further in your diving career, you can then go on to do other courses, either within the club or through the Scottish Sub-Aqua Club.
