The Chernobyl Childrens’ Project ( Blantyre ) is a group of volunteers from the Blantyre area who, for 2 weeks every 2 years give a lot of time, effort and fun to the children from Belarus who are still seriously affected by the Chernobyl Disaster in 1996. The group raise funds to bring the children over here for 2 weeks holiday.

When over here, the children stay with the various group members, who for the 2 weeks take the children on fun trips, tours, and keep them cheerfully occupied. Money is raised from various fund raisers one of them being the Thursday night quiz and raffle in the West End Bar.

Hamilton Sub Aqua Club were only too delighted to assist on one of these fun days by taking some of these kids and their carers on a trip on our RIB from Largs to Cumbrae stopping off at Millport  The weather decided not to play its part, but it did not stop the kids having fun. However, their carers and escorts now realize that bus travel isn’t so bad after all, compared to a shaken up, thrown about and thoroughly rinsing journey by RIB. Previously unknown swears and prayers were heard on the wind.

The Chernobyl Childrens Project ( Blantyre ) are to be congratulated, not only for the work , time and effort they put in during the kids stay here but all the effort and fund raising that goes on prior to their arrival.

Hamilton Sub Aqua Club would be more than pleased to assist in the future
